Food Forward SA | Fast track on food security
SHARE THIS INSPIRING STORY ON
As COVID-19 places even more people at risk of hunger, Food Forward SA is helping to expand its food distribution network to where it’s most needed.
Rather that filling landfills with surplus food, Food Forward SA secures quality food to nourish lives. Set up in 2009 to address widespread hunger in SA, the organisation recovers surplus food from the supply chain (farmers, retailers and manufacturers), and redistributes it to registered beneficiary organisations that serve the poor.
Now faced with the COVID-19 crisis, food security is under more pressure than ever. Already feeding nearly 400 000 beneficiaries across the nation, Food Forward SA is hard at work to fast track the huge influx of applications from the BO network that includes elderly homes, creches, shelters, children’s homes, skills centres, feeding programmes and HIV/AIDS facilities. As demand grows over the coming weeks, operations are to be scaled up to reach the poorest communities, with a particular focus on reaching vulnerable households and rural communities.
Help stamp out hunger and reach those most vulnerable during this crisis and beyond through Food Forward SA.
