Collect-A-Can 2009 School’s Competition:

R266 000 WORTH OF PRIZES TO BE WON!

Collect-A-Can (Pty) Ltd, is a non-profit company dedicated to minimise can litter. The southern Africa division of the company is the only region in the world where the producer of material for beverage cans and the beverage can manufacturer have come together to lead and inspire the recovery of used beverage cans.

HOW THE COMPETITION WORKS
1) THE NATIONAL COMPETITION

All schools will compete in two categories, the first is for the most beverage cans collected per school and the second is for the most beverage cans collected per learner. There is a total of R95 000 to be won in these two categories. The prizes will be awarded at the end of the competition.

Category 1: is for the most beverage cans collected per school during the whole competition.

Category 2: is for the most beverage cans collected per learner during the whole competition

2) THE BRANCH COMPETITIONS

There is a total of R 19 000 to be won monthly in the Branch Competition. To win these prizes, schools will also compete in category 1 and category 2 as per the national competition.

Monthly 1st place winners in each branch will be awarded their prize at the end of the competition, while 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place prizewinners will be awarded at the end of each month.

NB: Apart from the above-mentioned prizes, schools are also paid for the cans that are collected.

3) ADDITIONAL COMPETITIONS

Poetry Competition: Do you enjoy writing? We want to hear your poetry about how managing waste has improved your environment.  Its never too early to start jotting down all those wonderful ideas. There are lots of prizes in store for all your creativity and rewards for caring for the environment.  Competition opens: January 2009 closes: October 2009

CAN CRAZE Competition: Be creative! Create your own Superman or Barbie doll using used beverage cans. Let your imagination run wild - you can create anything, a television set or your favourite cartoon character " Spongebob Square Pants", designed by Florida Hoerskool won this competition in 2008. Collect-a-Can will reward your creativity with many exciting prizes. Competition opens: January 2009 - closes: October 2009

4) GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT

Lets break the record - show that you care for your environment by teaming up with your schoolmates to see how many cans you can collect in one month. Collect the most cans during the month of October and help us to break the Guinness World Record again this year! Competition opens: September 2009 -  closes: October 2009

DELIVERING YOUR COLLECTION

Before getting involved with collecting cans, contact the nearest Collect-A-Can branch to determine whether we can collect from your school and how frequently, if at all. It is advisable for your school to arrange its own transport to the nearest Collect-A-Can branch.

If Collect-A-Can is unable to collect from your school, you can still participate in the competition provided that you can deliver the cans to the branch. The price paid for cans delivered at the branch is higher than the price paid for cans collected from your school. Contact the nearest branch to enquire about prices.

To assist with storage, Collect-A-Can will loan you large collection bags, which can hold about 1000 uncrushed 340ml used beverage cans each. Deliveries may be made as often as you like – the more the better. Deliveries outside normal business hours may be made by prior arrangement only.

CONDITIONS FOR CANS

To obtain best prices, cans must be sorted into categories, e.g.: clean, rusted, etc.) Cans must be empty. No items or material other than beverage cans will be accepted. Bags containing any other material will be rejected. Contact any Collect-A-Can branch for further details.

COMPETITION RULES:

All schools will compete in both categories.
1. The Competition begins 1 February 2009 and ends 31 October 2009. 2. The competition is restricted to registered educational institutions e.g. schools, creches, boy scouts, girl guides etc. 3. Entry is only by attached entry form. 4. Complete the entry and post or fax it to your nearest Collect-A-Can branch. 5. Only beverage cans will be counted. 6. Category 1 is for the most beverage cans per school and category 2 is for the most beverage cans per learner. 7. Payments for cans will be made monthly by direct deposit into the school's banking account. 8. The results will be audited independently by Collect-A-Can's external auditors. 9. Monthly winners will be notified of results at the end of each month. 10. The national winners will be announced at the prize giving function to be held in November 2008. 11. The first place monthly prizewinner in the branch competition will be awarded a prize at the November function. 12. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into
