Abraham Kriel Childcare

Cotlands

Founded in 1936, Cotlands was originally created as a sanctuary for unwanted babies. It all started one night when a baby was left on the doorstep of Matron Dorothy Reece’s home in Mayfair, Johannesburg. She decided to take the infant in and care for it and out of this single act of kindness, Cotlands was born.

Doctors Without Borders

docters-without bordersSince 2000 MSF, Doctors without Borders, have been working in South Africa, primarily in response to the HIV epidemic. In Khayelitsha, the largest township in the Western Cape, MSF has worked with the provincial authorities to pioneer comprehensive HIV treatment, including antiretroviral (ARV) medicines, at a primary care level. Today, these clinics support over 10,000 people on ARV therapy.

Heartbeat

heartbeatHeartbeat is a non-profit (Reg: 015-242), and public benefit (Reg: 18/11/13/4841) organization, as well as a Section 21 company (Reg: 2000/001288/08) that was founded in 2000 by Dr Sunette Steyn.  The organization exists to alleviate the suffering of orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) by facilitating change in communities.

Hospice Palliative Care Association

hospiceHospice Palliative Care Association (HPCA) was founded in February 1988 and is a membership organisation for South African Hospices. During the last decade HPCA has established national and provincial Palliative Care development structures aimed specifically and purposefully at support and capacity building of member hospices and more recently of partner organisations in terms of the provision of quality palliative care.

I Care

Noah

noahIn response to the realisation that we face an "epidemic of orphans" following the AIDS pandemic in South Africa, Nurturing Orphans of AIDS for Humanity (Noah), was formed. Noah works on franchising community-based models of orphan care through which motivated individuals from communities are guided to set up their own community networks of care.  This functioning web of community support is called an Ark.

NSRI

nsriThe NSRI is a non-profit organisation that saves lives on South African waters. NSRI is manned by 920 volunteers at 30 bases around the coast and on 3 inland dams.  Donations, bequests and sponsorships cover the annual running cost of R22.5 million. The volunteers save NSRI a salary bill in excess of R230m per annum. NSRI began in 1967 - as a humanitarian service, at no charge to the public.

Reach for a Dream

reachfordreamFulfilling the dreams of children with life-threatening illnesses. Reach For A Dream is a non-profit organisation which fulfils the dreams of children between the ages of 3 and 18 who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses.

SARDA (South African Riding for the Disabled)

sardaSouth African Riding for the Disabled (SARDA) is a local charity that provides therapy to special needs children by bringing them into contact with and assisting them with riding specially trained horses. The therapeutic benefits that children with physical and psychological disabilities gain from riding at SARDA Cape Town branch is made possible by 12 qualified volunteer instructors and an additional 120 volunteers who, among many other activities, help lead the horses and in many cases physically support the more severely disabled children on the horses.

Sesego Cares

sesego caresThe Sešego Cares team is guided by the premise of “Ubuntu” which transcends the potential and promise that cooperation and willingness to pursue a common goal delivers. Sešego Cares was born in 2005 when the spouses of a few Absa Executives saw the plight of children living in Cape Town’s Khayelitsha Township.

Shine Centre

Shine CentreEstablished in 2000, The Shine Centre, 2010 WISE Awards nominee and winner of the 2008 Institute for Justice and Reconciliation Award, is a non profit organisation that provides literacy and language enrichment to children in Grades 2 and 3 through regular volunteer-led tutoring.

SOS Children's Villages

soschildrensThe SOS Children's Villages South Africa is a private, charitable, social development organisation.  It is politically and denominationally independent, and is an affiliated member of SOS-Kinderdorf International. SOS Children's Villages build families for orphaned and abandoned children.  Eight to ten children are cared for in small family-type homes, the SOS families, and are raised like brothers and sisters.

South African National Council for the Blind (Council)

The Council is an umbrella organisation encompassing 99 organisations for and of blind people in South Africa across all nine provinces. Their slogan: Empowering visually impaired people to do what they dare to dream.

Sunflower Fund

sunflowerfundImagine being diagnosed with leukemia? For many this is just unthinkable, but each year thousands of South Africans (mostly children and teenagers) have to face this terrifying reality. Fortunately, life-threatening blood disorders such as leukaemia, aplasia, immune deficiencies, inborn errors of metabolism, and other new indications such as auto-immune disorders can now be treated. The Sunflower Fund was formed in 1999, providing financial support to people affected by these diseases.
