Animal Rescue Organisation
The Animal Rescue Organisation (ARO) was established in 1986 specifically to address the plight of animals living in township and informal settlement communities around the Cape. Thousands of animals live in amongst the poorest community settlements and up until 1986 had limited access to welfare services. The result of this was untold suffering and rampant over breeding of both dogs and cats.
The Animal Rescue Organisation provides a hospital facility as well as the services of 3 Mobile Clinics. Each clinic is manned by a trained animal welfare assistant. The scope of ARO’s work is all encompassing and includes sterilisation, dipping, deworming and vaccinations. Every visit by a Mobile Clinic to one of the many indigent areas serviced by ARO is used as an opportunity to educate pet owners about responsible ownership and the benefits of having their pets sterilised.
ARO’s many and varied successes are attributable to a number of factors which include: an involved and active Management Committee, a professional fundraising department, a team of passionate employees, as well as a loyal following of supporters and donors.
