All too often, I hear people say that they can’t possibly make a difference, and it’s simply not true. It’s been said that ‘evil prevails when good men do nothing’ - which is why if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.

How to help save our rhinos

We’re all aware of the plight of our rhinos and their impending extinction. Many people would like to help, but aren’t sure how. This is where getting a MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet card comes in. By signing up in any Woolies store or online at, every time you shop you can help save this iconic species by choosing MyPlanet Rhino Fund as your chosen beneficiary.

Real change through MyPlanet Rhino Fund

There are two excellent examples of where money raised through MyPlanet Rhino Fund is helping to save rhinos on the ground:

My friend Damien Mander heads up the International Anti-Poaching Foundation (IAPF), which operates a successful team in ‘enemy territory’ in Mozambique. They really are fighting a war against poachers, who far outnumber the rhinos. To win this war, having boots on the ground is not enough, and they need resources like equipment and vehicles. Through funds raised, we were able to give the IAPF a Toyota Landcruiser – the very best 4x4 vehicle for the job, which is used daily in anti-poaching activities.

For John Adendorff, Regional Ranger in Addo Elephant Park, MyPlanet Rhino funds have helped keep his monitoring aircraft in the air. Supported by a great team, John is often flying his light Bat Hawk aircraft to track critically endangered black rhino populations. Doing wonders to save our rhinos, John’s ‘eyes in the air’ are vital for anti-poaching operations to find poachers hiding under trees and bushes when they hear the aircraft pass over.  This means ground teams are better able to swoop in to apprehend poachers.  When the Addo Bat Hawk aircraft urgently needed a new engine to stay airborne, the MyPlanet Rhino Fund came to the rescue to provide a new engine which means the Addo Bat Hawk is being used to its full potential to help save our rhinos.
