For the 17th year running, hundreds of animal-lovers and their dogs participated in the SPCA Royal Canin Wiggle Waggle Walkathon on the 28 November 2010. In total there were 2,251 dog-walkers and 1,751 dogs that took part in the biggest organized dog walk in the Western Cape. This event raised R110 659, for abused, neglected and abandoned animals.

The MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet fundraising programme pledged to give R10 for every dog that participated in the Walkthon and therefore an additional R17,510 was donated to the SPCA – Cape of Good Hope (CoGH).

Happy smiles

The event, which started as a means to create and grow awareness around the work that the SPCA CoGH carry out has become so well supported that it’s now an annual fundraising event. The money raised from the donation will help the SPCA CoGH to operate its animal adoption centre and hospital, support its inspectorate services and provide community education on animal welfare issues.

Each month, the SPCA CoGH investigates around 800 reports of animal cruelty and neglect and relies entirely on public donations as they receive no government support and funding. “The MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet fundraising programme is proud to support the SPCA through the MyPlanet initiative.  It is fantastic to see the support towards the SPCA is growing annually", says Helene Brand, Marketing Manager at MySchool.
