98 boxes of toys collected for charity thanks to Toys R Us and MySchool Donation Station

Thank you for our toysOver the last two weeks of September 2010, Toys R Us and MySchool called on the public to generously donate good quality, second-hand toys and baby goods at various in-store ‘Donation Station’ collection points across the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

10 Toys R Us stores participated in this public donation drive and MySchool cardholders were eager to “pay it forward” to children in need.

In total, 98 boxes – weighing in at a little less than 1,630kg – were collected and distributed to a specified MySchool beneficiary in each region. These beneficiaries were various NOAH Orphanages in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal as well as The Friends of the Children’s Hospital Association at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town.

A toy can make significance in a child’s life, which is why we whole-heartedly supported this initiative. We believe that this initiative teaches the true meaning of Ubuntu; creating communities that share in order to enrich the lives of others.

“Toys play such an important role in a child’s development and growth,” adds Pieter Twine, general manager for MySchool. “They can inspire imagination, spark curiosity, stimulate creative thinking or even offer security when the Boogie Monster is lurking under the bed!”

Each donator received a Toys R US gift card valued at R25.

Thank you to everyone who has made a donation, as well as a special thank you to Kargo who managed and sponsored all the courier deliveries.

Hi there ,it is certainly a privilage to have a Myschool card , knowing that it is going to help some child in need , is comfort,I am an employee at NOAH , and the work that goes into helping orphaned and Vulnerable children is amazing , the need for Funding to Empower these communities to care for their own orphaned and vulnerable is growing , the lack of funding has made it impossible for Noah to continue with our nutritional programmes.

Noah has empowered so many communities and we have now reached out to another Province, the North West and is working with 5 new arks , we have so far extend our programmes and services to three provinces , the heart and soul of Noah is to bring smiles to the faces of many children in South Africa that have been orphaned by the the spread of HIV AND AIDS ,NGO's ARE our only hope to reach out to empoverished communities , Noah shares and maintains a bond with these communities , The MY school programme has made a child smile Thank you :)
