Equipped with the tools and knowledge they need to realise their leadership potential, 67 college students have been given the empowering boost they need for the future.  That’s thanks to close to 750 000 MySchool supporters who raised just under R100 000 during Mandela month.

With the funds, MOT SA was able to send 67 bright young students from the Western and Eastern Cape to an MOT SA youth leadership camp held in August 2019.  The MOT life-skills programmes inspire, motivate and empower young people to become positive role models for themselves, their peers and in their communities.

“Our youth are faced with daily challenges which often leads them to believe that their circumstances define who they are. MOT raises self-awareness that enables our youth to make conscience choices that will create the future that they want”, said Julia Duminy, Country Director of MOT SA.

At these camps young people build knowledge and leadership skills, and learn how to manage peer pressure and teamwork, while strengthening their courage and self-belief.  Throughout the camp, MOT includes fun activities that build teamwork and create an inclusive culture.

In addition to the activities, the young MOTivators enjoyed inspirational talks from MOT Brand Ambassadors, former South African International Cricketer, JP Duminy, and Radio and TV Presenter, Carl Wastie.

MOT Brand Ambassadors are local sport heroes, musicians, public speakers, entrepreneurs and media personalities. As positive role models, they help strengthen and encourage our young people to reach their full potential.

And the feedback from these newly-trained Young Motivators has been wonderful:

“The MOT training surpassed my expectations. Not the training alone but the love and the experience.”

“Now I know that it is okay to have different insights of yourself and to work with the inner you first.”

“I was surprised to find out that being vulnerable is actually a good thing if you are around the right people.”
