The majority of HBVEMS’ calls are medical emergencies resulting from chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, asthma, and epilepsy as well as maternal and child health. One such community remembers the team’s treatment of his son a few years ago and came over to thank them for their service, with a smile and a cold drink. Along with health conditions, the volunteers also deal with assaults, motor vehicle accidents and some domestic accidents (i.e. horse riders, builders falling, etc.).

Dispatched through the Provincial Department of Health: EMS’s Dispatchers, as well as through the Hout Bay Neighbourhood Watch’s control room, the ambulance responds to any call for assistance within Hout Bay and surrounding areas.

Thanks to MySchool funds, every volunteer call out eases the pressure on the Provincial Ambulance service and results in faster lifesaving care for the patients.
