  • A brief highlight of what we do:
    Address and attempt to eliminate avoidable blindness by conducting over 100 mobile tours which provide cataract surgery (4000/annum), refraction services (3500/annum) and low vision services to people living in remote rural areas.
  • Train approximately 100 students per year in
      • Optima College.
      • Provide assistive devices such as long white canes, Perkins Braillers, talking watches and much more for the blind, as well as give training on the use of some of these items..
      • Provide low vision consulting and assistive devices like magnifiers and screen readers for partially sighted or ‘Low Vision’ people.
      • Employ community development workers in the provinces to identify, unify and mobilise visually impaired people in the communities to start small business and become more independent and self sufficient.
      • Deliver awareness and sensitisation presentations.
      • Promote access to Braille and Braille support services in South Africa.
      • Facilitate improved Braille production capacity in South Africa through advocacy.
      • Support the rollout of the Unified Braille Code
      • Support the development of ABET (Adult basic education and training) to meet the needs of visually impaired South Africans.
      • Advocate for quality education for all visually impaired learners.
