The United Nations General Assembly has recently adopted a text declaring 18 July as an International Day to be observed annually starting in 2010. This year, Nelson Mandela Day will be recognised for the first time as an annual international day of humanitarian action in celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy.

The 92 children also presented him with birthday cards signed by the plane’s passengers. MySchool (through the Thuso School Fund) is honoured to be a part of this event. We have donated Woolworths school wear, shoes, socks, underwear, warm tops and edible goodies for each child to take home in a lovely canvas bag. The kids were thrilled with their gifts, the party at the foundation, the beautiful cakes, and most of all the opportunity to sing for Nelson Mandela.
“In association with retail partner Woolworths, MySchool is honoured to be able to provide these children with essential winter and school clothing, as well as share with them the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of meeting Madiba in person,” says Pieter Twine, general manager of MySchool.
In the words of Former President Mandela, “It is time for the next generations to continue our struggle against social injustice and for the rights of humanity. It is in your hands.”
