RULES AND INFORMATION: 8KM ROAD RACE

• All adults must be licensed athletes belonging to a club, or must purchase a temporary licence for R15.
• Learner participants in the 8km can be unlicensed (if running in school colours) or licensed if they wish to count for age category prizes (purchase a temporary licence at R8 extra).
• To be eligible for age category prizes age category tags must be worn (e.g. J, 40, 50, 60) on front and back of vest.
• Temporary licensed runners are eligible for age category prizes provided they enter the relevant age group, wear the appropriate age tags and provide proof of age. Age category tags will be available to purchase at registration.
• Learner participants will be allowed to take part in either the 8km or 5km events. All learners in either event, will count towards the Schools Mass Participation Competition, provided they pre-register with their schools on 13 August.
• Minimum age 12 years.
• Club colours and licences must be worn to qualify for team prizes.

RULES AND INFORMATION: 5KM FUN RUN/WALK

• Open to adults and learners.
• All finishers will be eligible for lucky draw prizes provided they are present at prize giving.
• Minimum age without adult supervision is 9 years.
• There will be a water point at 3km and Coke at the finish.
• Entry cards must be in the athlete’s possession during the race.

Training programmes for the 5km run/ walk 

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR ALL COMPETITORS

• Limited parking available at Claremont Primary School (off Queen Victoria Road).
• Registration for all competitors, (aside from Schools Mass Participation Competition), will be taken on race day from 06h00.
• A tog bag storage facility will be provided at the owner’s risk.
• The use of personal music players with headphones during road races is discouraged for safety reasons. Persons using them will not be eligible for overall or age group prizes.
• Each kilometre will be marked.
• No personal seconding or seconding from moving vehicles is allowed.
• Athletes enter entirely at their own risk. The organisers and sponsors will not accept responsibility for any loss, damage or injury to participants.
• Please deposit litter in the bins provided.
• Although marshals will supervise major road crossings, individuals must be careful of traffic.
• Neither the 5km nor the 8km course can accommodate wheel chairs. No dogs are allowed. 
• Results for the 8km race will be circulated electronically to all clubs and will be posted on  www.wpa.org.za and www.celticharriers.co.za . There will be no results produced for the 5km.
• Schools that would like the results sent to them electronically, must provide their e-mail address to the organisers at schools registration Friday 13 August 15h00 – 18h00.
• Participants must be present at prize giving at 09h15 to win lucky draw prizes.
• Held under the auspices of WPA and ASA.
• All participants must obey traffic officers, race officials and race marshals at all times.
