Kalahari.net together with MySchool have partnered in an initiative to donate books to underprivileged schools on a national scale. This project seeks to encourage learning and reading habits among children. Every quarter, a new school is selected with the help of MySchool to receive these books. Most often these books are used to stock a library at the schools. Facilitate an upgrade and extreme makeover of ST. GEORGE’S HOME FOR GIRLS in Wynberg, Western Cape, currently home to 40 young girls between the ages of 8 and 18 who are at risk. About St George’s Home for Girls ST GEORGES HOME FOR GIRLS has a rich legacy dating back more than a hundred years to 1862 when the first child was taken in to care. This legacy of providing a safe and loving environment that allows children at risk to flourish continues today. They are a registered Children’s Home. In fact, it is currently the only residential care facility in the Wynberg District which provides for children who are abused, abandoned, neglected and orphaned. Children from failed foster placements and those with behavioural problems are also cared for. The girls are fully integrated into the local community. They attend schools in the surrounding areas, worship at a church of their choice, and are actively involved in extra-mural activities.
