Mission

The Endangered Wildlife Trust is dedicated to conserving threatened species and ecosystems in southern Africa to the benefit of all people.

WHO WE ARE

The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) is a non-governmental conservation organisation that was established in 1973 and operates throughout southern Africa.  We are fully compliant and produce annually audited financial statements for our donors. Our registration details are as follows:

  • NPO No. 015-502 NPO;
  • PBO No. 930 001 777;.
  • The EWT is also 501 (c) (3) compliant. Registration is US IRS Reg. EMP98-0586801"

WHAT WE DO:

The EWT conserves threatened species and ecosystems in southern Africa by:

  • Initiating conservation research and action programmes;
  • Preventing species extinction and maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem functioning;
  • Supporting sustainable natural resource use and management thereof;
  • Communicating the principles of sustainable living and empowering people by capacity building, education and awareness programmes to the broadest possible constituency;
  • Acting as a public watchdog, often taking the government and industry to task for decision-making that does not meet sustainability criteria;
  • Actively co-operating and partnering with many other institutions working towards a common goal;
  • Taking a strong leadership and advocacy role in promoting environmental and social justice.

The EWT has a unique working structure - divided into groups that each specialise in a particular area of conservation need. At the moment we have 14 Working Groups that together coordinate 100 conservation projects:

The Working Groups are:

  • Airport Wildlife Working Group

  • Conservation Breeding Specialist Group

  • Wildlife Energy Interaction Group

  • Law and Policy Working Group

  • IT4Conservation

  • Healthy Rivers Programme

  • Conservation Leadership Group

  • Threatened Grasslands Species Working Group
  • Wildlife Conflict Prevention Group
  • Riverine Rabbit Working Group
