| Animal Rescue Organisation |
The Animal Rescue Organisation was formed in 1986 and has developed over the years into one of the finest welfare organisations for animals in the Cape.
ARO's focus is on the poorest of the poor communities ranging from Du Noon through to Somerset West with up to 20 000 animals receiving our care annually. ARO provides a wide range of rescue, welfare and veterinary hospital services ranging from rescue of abused animals to sterilisation of much loved family pets. Sadly, thousands of animals are put to sleep in South Africa every day due to the fact that there are insufficient homes to go round. It is now generally understood that indiscriminate breeding of dogs and cats is an act of dire irresponsibility and that it is best to have your pets sterilised as young as possible. ARO will sterilise all animals treated at their hospital. The ARO hospital is for welfare cases only. Across the world research has proved that children live what they learn. A child who gets away with abusing animals will more than likely grow into an abusive adult too. Unless there is intervention. ARO runs a full time Education Department and despatches trained staff into indigent schools to teach youth the value of compassion and caring. This includes caring for animals and each other, not bullying and showing responsibility towards health and welfare throughout life. The Animal Rescue Organisation does not receive any government funding and is dependent on the generosity of its members and donors. The ARO website www.animalrescue.org.za has lots of information about the mobile clinics and hospital work being done on a daily basis.
