| SPCA Cape Town: Attend the Wiggle Waggle Walk! |
|
It's time to brush off your walking shoes, pull out the dog leads and bring along your "best friends" to Cape Town's premier pet event - the 13th annual 567 Cape Talk SPCA Wiggle Waggle Walkathon on Sunday 22 November. Whether or not you own a pet, the 4.5km yap around the tranquil suburb of Tokai (southern suburbs), is a barking good morning out for the whole family and a great way to support the Cape of Good Hope (CoGH) SPCA. Sponsored by news and talk radio station 567 CapeTalk, the walk starts at 9am from the Academy of Maths, Science and Technology, corner Firgrove and Spaanschemat River Roads, Tokai and entrants are encouraged to arrive early to avoid a last minute rush. Popular 567 CapeTalk presenters, Aden Thomas and Soli Philander will join thousands of Capetonians and their dogs of all shapes and sizes, young and old, to put their best paw forward and keep panting to the end. "It's fantastic to see hundreds of dogs and their owners yapping for such a good cause - everyone at CapeTalk is very proud to be part of this iconic Cape Town event", said 567 CapeTalk's station manager, Colleen Louw.
There's also an added incentive to enter - every participant will receive a goody bag with a product sample from PetAlive natural remedies and each dog will receive a brand new dog lead from Royal Canin. Plus, the MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet fundraising programme has pledged R10 to the SPCA for every dog entered. Last year just over 1000 dogs took part and the organisors are hoping to reach 1500 dogs this year. As well as the walk, there will be dog agility displays, stalls, fabulous prize giveaways and a host of other activities.
Plenty of parking is available and all roads along the route will be closed to traffic, with regular water points available to keep canine walkers and their owners refreshed. For the first time participants can pre-register online at www.spca-ct.co.za or www.capetalk.co.za.
Money raised from entry fees and donations helps the CoGH SPCA to operate its animal adoption centre and hospital, support its inspectorate services and provide community education on animal welfare issues. Each month, the Cape of Good Hope (CoGH) SPCA investigates around 800 reports of animal cruelty and neglect and relies entirely on public donations as it receives no government support.
