New Zulu class room for Atholl Heights Primary

Atholl Heights Primary School in Westville have dedicated each year’s MySchool funds to selected school projects. This is their way of ensuring that all MySchool funds raised make a visible difference to their school grounds.

The funds collected in 2007 went to funding a new wendy house for their Reception Unit. A plaque has been placed on the wendy house stating that it is a MySchool funded project so that the "parents can see a tangible result for all their perseverance in presenting their MySchool card," said Gayle Venediger, Financial Secretary to the school.

All the funds collected from the MySchool programme in 2008 contributed to the funding for their Zulu Hut Class Room. Mrs Nicole Jacobs, from the school's Zulu Department, says that 2009 was an exciting year for Atholl Heights as this dream became a reality. "The children in our Senior Primary phase have their Zulu lessons in a traditional hut and they just love it!" The entrance to the hut sets the tone. A pebbled walkway, a beautiful garden and a water feature welcomes learners as they approach the hut. "What a marvellous environment it is for me, the Zulu teacher, to work in. It makes this most spoken language in South Africa come alive!" she concluded.
