Support MySchool and nurture young minds

MySchool helps more than 9 000 schools – many of them in poor areas – get what they need to give kids the education they deserve. If there isn’t a particular school you’d like to support, you might consider supporting the Thuso Fund, which helps under-resourced schools across South Africa.

Remember: Every Swipe Counts!

The MySchool fundraising programme was established on 30 September 1997 by a Johannesburg based parent who wanted to help his child’s school raise more funds in an easy and sustainable manner. Registered under the company name "Virtual Market Place", the MySchool programme soon became a popular fundraising tool in many schools.

The little entrepreneurial business grew from strength to strength. Woolworths became the programme’s main partner and later bought majority share in the business. Later Woolworths decided to buy out the whole business and MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet became part of the Woolworths Group of Companies.

The programme began as a fundraising programme solely focused on providing individuals with the opportunity to support their local School every time they shopped, but expanded to assist “Villages” and “Planets” around 2007 due to the vast and growing need in South Africa, hence the programme is now called MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet.

The MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet fundraising programme is one of South Africa’s biggest community programmes. We raise funds for schools, charities and environmental organisations through a card system that allows supporters to raise funds for their beneficiary (school or charity) every time they shop at our partner stores. Partners make a contribution, on behalf of the supporter/cardholder, towards the beneficiary they have selected.

The system allows cardholders to make a difference to a worthy cause without it costing them a cent! The MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet programme raises more than R6 million per month for the schools, charities, animal welfare and environmental organisations it supports.

Our Thuso Fund for schools and charities raises funding for under-resourced schools and a range of charities across South Africa.  Many MySchool supporters want to reach out and help schools, under-resourced communities, animals and the environment, but aren’t sure where to start.

That’s why we created the Thuso Fund, to help make a greater impact where it’s needed most.  Through combining our fundraising efforts, we’re able to ensure that the funds raised are used in the best possible way, through care and good governance.

We only partner with organisations that show good leadership, resourcefulness and a solid needs assessment, which clearly demonstrates how any investment will make a sustainable and/or substantial impact.

When you swipe your card for the Thuso Fund for Schools and Charities, you can trust that you’re raising funds for under-resourced schools and worthy charities across South Africa.  All the funds are carefully managed, and every rand is administered by MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet, in accordance with our Corporate Social Investment policy and good governance practices.
